Identify the measured object
For Smead 10339, filing.com lists an overall width of 11 5/8 inches and overall height of 9 1/2 inches, then separately identifies a 9-inch body. That last distinction matters because a projecting tab is part of the overall silhouette but does not create extra document space. The manufacturer variant's structured height and width labels use a different orientation. Neither presentation should be silently converted into a measured internal cavity or a guaranteed maximum sheet dimension.
Check three clearances separately
A folder must accommodate its intended documents, close in the intended manner and fit the chosen storage system. A document that lies between the covers may still protrude above the body. A folder that holds a sheet may still interfere with a drawer's rails or nearby hanging tabs. This record verifies the product's declared Letter purpose, not all three clearances. For an unusual sheet, envelope or cabinet, obtain the applicable usable dimension and compare it to the actual object rather than to a catalog thumbnail.
Keep expansion and capacity distinct
The retailer lists a three-quarter-inch expansion feature. That is not a count of sheets, a measured load rating or a promise that a full folder preserves the same internal footprint. Paper thickness, inserted materials and how the folder is handled change the practical arrangement. We do not convert the expansion description into a fixed document capacity. A procurement specification can retain the expansion label while leaving a required document count to an actual sample or a supplier's explicit guidance.
Order after resolving the critical clearance
If the purchase is for ordinary Letter records in an established cabinet, first confirm that the exact 10339 folder is the intended replacement. If the project involves A4, oversized forms, tabbed dividers or heavy inserts, ask for the specific interior and cabinet-clearance information before ordering a full box. Record any unknown rather than interpreting a larger-looking exterior as extra usable space. The local finder deliberately does not issue an A4 fit approval from these outside dimensions.
Do not swap orientation to prove a match
The retailer describes width and height in the familiar landscape folder orientation, while the selected manufacturer fields call11.625in height and9.5in width. Both are recorded as source labels. Rotating the numerical fields in a private spreadsheet may make the drawing easier to read, but it does not add an interior measurement. If fit is critical, obtain a drawing that identifies the actual usable area, fold and tab. A visual overlay made from overall rectangles would create apparent precision while still missing the part of the product that the document actually occupies.
