Read the tab description as a navigation feature

Smead 10339 is a manila Letter folder with one-third-cut, assorted-position tabs and a one-ply tab construction in the selected manufacturer record. One-third-cut describes the tab arrangement across the top edge. It does not mean that a folder takes one-third as many sheets as a straight-cut folder, nor that each tab is a separate filing compartment. The selected box contains 100 folders, not 100 sets of three folders.

Do not invent an exact position split

Assorted-position tabs support a staggered labeling arrangement, but the sources used here do not provide a guaranteed count of left, center and right positions in each 100-folder box. Dividing 100 by three does not create a manufacturer packing specification. If a project requires a precise number of each tab position, request the actual assortment or choose an explicitly specified single-position product. Do not approve a fixed-position plan using only the word assorted.

Match label visibility to the filing method

A top-tab folder is meant to present its tab at the top. An end-tab system relies on a different viewing edge. A buyer replacing folders in a shelf system should confirm which edge remains visible rather than assuming all manila folders are interchangeable. Label dimensions and placement also need a separate check; the one-third-cut term alone is not a measured adhesive-label area. No label adhesion, scanner readability or long-term handling test was conducted for this reference.

Write a complete reorder line

A useful order line includes manufacturer, 10339, Letter, manila, one-third-cut assorted tabs and 100 folders per box. That prevents a similar legal-size, reinforced-tab or end-tab listing from being accepted as the same item. If the exact tab distribution matters, mark that requirement unresolved until confirmed. If the aim is simply readable sorting, plan the naming convention before buying extra folders. A new tab arrangement cannot fix inconsistent document categories by itself.

Count categories before assigning positions

Suppose a filing plan uses three broad categories and a few hundred subfiles. A third-cut assortment may help distribute visible labels, but the category count does not tell you how many folders of each position a box contains. Decide whether position itself carries meaning or simply improves visibility. If it carries meaning, require an explicitly specified distribution. If it is only visual, retain a consistent written label so moving a folder does not change its identity. This planning step avoids ordering a second box merely to chase a tab position that was never guaranteed in the first place.
